Craig Lawrence appointed chairman of State Supply Commission
9/4/95
Services Minister Kevin Minson today announced the appointment of Craig Lawrence as the new chairman of the State Supply Commission.
Mr Minson said Mr Lawrence had accepted the position and would chair his first commission meeting tomorrow.
"Mr Lawrence is eminently qualified for the position through his experience as former managing director of Australia's largest trustee company, Perpetual Trustees Australia Limited," the Minister said.
The commission's role is to oversee the Government's supply process and to assist in achieving its public sector reform objectives in the areas of contracting out and Government purchasing policy.
Mr Minson said the commission would focus on achieving high levels of efficiency and cost-effectiveness in the supply of services to Government through better procurement, best practice, quality management systems and high standards of accountability.
"These changes follow the Government's commitment to the legislative changes in December to oversee these important reform initiatives."
Mr Lawrence was appointed chairman of the City of Perth Commissioners in December, 1993. He is also a member of the newly formed Western Australian Planning Commission which replaced the State Planning Commission, as well as a former National President and State chairman of the Trustee Companies Association of Australia and is a member of the Council of the Royal Automobile Club (RAC).
