Dates set for Queen's Birthday holiday set for next 3 years
25/9/94
The Western Australian Government has set dates for the Queen's Birthday holiday for the next three years.
In 1995, the holiday will be observed on October 2, in 1996 on September 30 and in 1997 on September 29.
The dates have been set in consultation with the Education Department, which has committed itself to a three-year schedule for school holidays, and the Royal Agricultural Society, which has made a similar commitment about Royal Show Week.
Labour Relations Minister Graham Kierath said the holidays had been fixed well in advance to eliminate the possibility of confusion, particularly among publishers producing diaries, calendars and other materials.
"There has been some confusion over the date for this year's Queen's Birthday holiday because after it had been publicly announced, a last minute change in the school holiday schedule meant it had to be put back a week," Mr Kierath said.
"The public was quickly notified about the new date, October 3, but it was too late for some publishers who had already gone to print.
"To ensure it does not happen again, the Government decided to proclaim the holidays three years in advance instead of the traditional 18 months."
