Medical services in the Denmark region have been significantly boosted with a new $300,000 Accident and Emergency Department at the Denmark District Hospital.
Officially opening the new facility today, Health Minister John Day said the redevelopment included two treatment bays, a separate resuscitation and treatment room, and the renovation of the waiting area and X-ray facilities.
Mr Day said the new facilities were part of the State Government's commitment to ensuring that Denmark's growing population had access to high quality health care close to home.
"This project represents an important part of the Coalition Government's policy of providing specialist health services in rural and remote communities throughout the State," he said.
"In particular it reduces the need for costly travel to other hospitals and in many cases, major disruptions to family life."
Mr Day said Denmark was a popular holiday destination with more than 40,000 tourists visiting annually.
"With this number of tourists, as well as a fast growing local population, the new A&E department is now well equipped to deal with the inevitable increase in services that is expected over the next five years," he said.
