Dept to study proposed termination package for Meredin shire clerk

Local Government Minister Paul Omodei says he has asked the Department of Local Government to look into a termination package proposed by the Merredin Shire Council for its Shire Clerk.

Mr Omodei said the package included a car and life-time use of a house owned by the council for $50 a year rent.

"It is an incredibly generous package which I believe the council should reconsider, taking into account that they are using ratepayer funds," he said.

"The full value of the package is unclear because of the housing component, but it would obviously be considerable."

Mr Omodei said the Department of Local Government had today sought details from the council to assess whether the package could be provided by the council or whether they would need Ministerial approval. He expected that advice next week.
