The digitized aerial photography of most of the Goldfields region is now available on CD ROM as part of the Department of Land Administration's (DOLA's) award-winning 'PanAIRama' series.

Lands Minister Doug Shave said 10 more CD ROMs in the State-wide series had now been released - including new aerial photographs of Rottnest.

The new CD were of Perth and Environs, Blackwood, Kalgoorlie/Kurnalpi and Boorabbin/Widgiemooltha.

Mr Shave said the Kalgoorlie and Boorabbin CD completed the digital photography of the Goldfields zone four region from Leonora and Laverton, through to Lake Johnston and Norseman.

Digital aerial photographs of Rottnest were included for the first time on the latest series of aerial shots of Perth and surrounding areas. This CD also covered south to Harvey, north to Two Rocks and east to Beverley.

"DOLA is to be congratulated for the important on-going work being done to digitize aerial photographs and store both analogue and digital photographs of this massive State," the Minister said.

"Last year the department won a Silver Award for the 'PanAIRama' concept in competition with Government bodies from across the nation."

Software to produce the series has been taken up by other land administration and Government authorities across Australia and New Zealand.

Disks in the 'PanAIRama' series include stereo images which enable 3-D viewing through a stereoscope, historic photographs and detailed topography shots taken vertically.

The series is a valuable resource for emergency authorities such as the Fire Brigade and Police Service, together with local Government councils and even members of the public interested in unusual and beautiful photographs.

"These aerial photographs are extremely useful for people involved in mapping, those requiring visual descriptions of areas, and the general public," the Minister said.

"The CD ROM format is very cost-effective, compared with buying individually-printed aerial photos."

DOLA's permission is required prior to any commercial use of the PanAIRama images.

Anyone interested in purchasing the new 'Aerial Scenes of Western Australia' or any other CD ROMs in the 'PanAIRama' series should contact DOLA's Central Map Agency on 9273 7209 for details of licensing and prices.
