Health Minister Kevin Prince today kicked off the 1998 Red Cross Appeal on behalf of the State Government with a cheque for $20,000.

"The Red Cross is a great, unique organisation which deserves the support of the people of Western Australia," Mr Prince said.

"I would urge people if they can, to dig deep and help Red Cross deliver a wide variety of services to our WA community."

Mr Prince said Red Cross had for decades, addressed specific community needs throughout the world with effective solutions by delivering services in a way which lifted the human spirit.

In WA, Red Cross provides first aid, health and safety services and programs, including the Save-A-Mate program, which offers affordable first-aid courses to friends, family and individuals who live with drug misuse and high-risk situations.

Last year the Red Cross Appeal raised $420,000 in WA.
