Dr G J Goodier appointed CEO for PMH and KEMH
30/9/93
Dr Gareth John Goodier has been appointed Chief Executive Officer to Princess Margaret Hospital and King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth.
Dr Goodier (42) is currently based in Cairns as Regional Director of the Peninsula and Torres Strait Region of Queensland Health.
He was the Regional Director of the Kimberley in Western Australia before moving to Cairns and previously worked as a clinician in the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and Western Australia before turning to a career in health service management.
Health Minister Peter Foss announced the appointment today saying Dr Goodier would bring a wealth of experience to the position.
"The interview panel found Dr Goodier to be a superior candidate, with impressive qualifications and management skills," Mr Foss said.
"We are lucky to have such a person at the helm of two of our very important metropolitan hospitals.
"Amongst his other duties, Dr Goodier faces the important task of overseeing the planned rationalisation of corporate services and a review of support services at each hospital, to achieve efficiencies and free up more funds for patient services.
"It is estimated that significant savings could be made from pursuing greater efficiencies in administration costs - money that would be redirected into patient services where it rightly belongs," Mr Foss said.
The Minister added that the installation of a joint CEO would result in greater co-ordination and better provision of services, and that no existing patient services would be lost.
Dr Goodier is expected to take up his position in December.
