Dr Ken Michael appointed new chair of Trustees of WA Museum
Arts Minister Peter Foss has announced the appointment of Dr Ken Michael as the new chair of the Trustees of the Western Australian Museum.
Dr Michael recently retired as Commissioner of Main Roads after a distinguished career in the public sector.
Mr Foss said he was pleased Dr Michael had agreed to the appointment because not only would he bring professional expertise to the position but a personal connection as well.
"Dr Michael grew up in Northbridge and knows the Western Australian Museum precinct very well and has fond memories of the area," the Minister said.
"He has great credentials from his service in the public sector as Commissioner of Main Roads and Public Service Commissioner."
Dr Michael said he was looking forward to joining the WA Museum and becoming involved in its work and future projects.
"I am excited about working with the trustees and the museum's other boards to continue and develop its public programs and research work for the benefit of the community and the State's profile," he said.
"It is especially important as the museum is currently undergoing major redevelopment and restoration to improve its services, exhibitions and access to people."
Mr Foss said Dr Michael's appointment was part of the museum's overall vision to build an institution of international standing which also was intrinsic to the community's understanding of its environment, social culture and history.
Currently Dr Michael is a management and engineering consultant, a member of the East Perth Redevelopment Authority Board and President of the Rotary Club of Perth.
He was appointed a member of the general Division of the Order of Australia in the 1996 Australia Day Honours for public services and engineering.
