28/7/98
Employment and Training Minister Cheryl Edwardes today announced the appointment of Dr Peter Smith as managing director of Karratha College of TAFE.
Mrs Edwardes congratulated Dr Smith on being selected to continue in the position, which he has held since 1993.
His previous appointments include Head of Department of General Studies at Kalgoorlie College, and Senior Lecturer in Education at the University of Papua New Guinea.
The Minister said Dr Smith played a key role in achieving the college's vision of growth, through recognition as an outstanding training provider operating with integrity and professionalism.
"The challenge is to ensure that Karratha College continues to provide industry and the communities of the West Pilbara region with innovative, entrepreneurial education, training and cultural services which are quality based and customer focussed," Mrs Edwardes said.
"We intend to achieve this by making the college the most flexible, dynamic and customer-driven provider of training and cultural services in the North-West.
"The Pilbara has a dynamic economy, and the next five years is likely to see an expansion of industrial and business activity.
"Karratha College will be part of that expansion by helping provide the skills needed by industry and the community."
Dr Smith holds a Master of Education Degree and a PhD in Education Studies. His appointment as Managing Director Karratha College is for five years.
