Construction work valued at $1.6 million to extend the Kalgoorlie Eastern Bypass south to Anzac Drive will start in late November.

Transport Minister Eric Charlton said the project would include provision of a roundabout at the Anzac Drive/Kambalda Road intersection.  Design and construction would be undertaken by Main Roads with assistance from contractors.

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder would meet 30 per cent of the cost and the State Government the balance.

Mr Charlton said the extension of the eastern bypass would involve construction of a large culvert over Gribble Creek and the $250,000 contract had been awarded to Kalgoorlie contractor, Omni Drainage.

"Once completed the new road and roundabout will improve traffic flow in the area, particularly for heavy vehicles and the work is part of a staged program to improve the safety of roads in the Goldfields region," the Minister said.

Mr Charlton said the Government had responded to community requests to upgrade the intersection of Anzac Drive and Kambalda Road to meet the needs of traffic in the area.

"The long-awaited improvements will benefit all road users and especially heavy haulage operators in and out of Kalgoorlie-Boulder," he said.

"The latest allocation complements other roadworks in the State which are being funded under the Government's $1 billion Additional Funding program."
