Families urged to travel by public transport to Christmas Pageant
7/12/94
Transport Minister Eric Charlton today urged families travelling to this year's Christmas Pageant on Saturday to fully utilise Perth's public transport.
"Public transport is the best form of hassle-free travel to a major event like this in the city," Mr Charlton said.
"City parking is always at a premium on Saturdays, but Pageant Saturday will make it almost impossible.
"Use of the Transperth buses and trains can make the trip in and out of the city an added family event in itself."
Mr Charlton said Transperth had increased its services in order that families could get into the city and home easily.
"Park 'n' Ride car parking facilities are available at each of the train or interchange stations, and there is ample parking at Kwinana, Murdoch, Mirrabooka and Rockingham bus stations," he said.
The Minister said one option for families was the purchase of MultiRider tickets in advance of the Christmas Pageant. A day tripper ticket allowed all-day travel for up to seven people, including two adults, for $5.
He said Transperth would be advertising changes to services for the pageant.
In addition to increased bus services, ferries would run from 4 pm to 10.30 pm every 15 minutes and the frequency of train services would increase from 8.30 pm on all lines.
