A film festival and a series of special film offers - including free admission to some screenings - will be among the cultural highlights of Seniors' Week 1995, Minister for Seniors Roger Nicholls said today.

Mr Nicholls said he was pleased to announce that several Perth cinemas were taking part in the year's celebrations which will run from Sunday, October 15 to Saturday, October 21.

Lumiere Cinemas will screen a series of films highlighting the beauty and diversity of age.

These will include Dad and Dave - On Our Selection starring Leo McKern and Joan Sutherland, IQ starring Walter Matthau and Meg Ryan and The Browning Version starring Albert Finney.

The concessional price of $6, normally available only to seniors, will be extended to all film goers between Monday and Friday of Seniors Week.

Mr Nicholls said Greater Union and Hoyts Cinemas had a very generous offer for seniors.

Greater Union Cinemas are admitting seniors free to any morning-session film between Monday, October 16 and Friday, October 20 inclusive.

Over that same period seniors will also be admitted free to the first morning-session films at Hoyts Cinemas.

Window to Paris, Le parfum d'Yvonne and the Bridges of Madison County are among a special selection of films being screened especially for Seniors Week by Cinema Paradiso and the Astor Cinema.

Mr Nicholls said these special offers would make Seniors' Week an ideal time for different generations to enjoy a movie together.

He said Seniors' Week was designed to raise awareness of the important contributions that seniors made to the community.

He hoped that people of all ages would take part in some of the special events that had been planned for the week.
