Five new members appointed to Women's Advisory Council
9/3/96
Women's Interests Minister Cheryl Edwardes today announced five new members had been appointed to the Women's Advisory Council (WAC).
"The Women's Advisory Council is a very important mechanism, allowing women across the State to have input into Government policy and decision-making," Mrs Edwardes said.
"The Women's Advisory Council is a vital link between women in the community and Government. Members of the new council have been chosen for their strong links in the community and their experience in a variety of fields."
Appointed for a two-year term are: Anna Liscia, a solicitor from Mount Lawley, Perth; Lynne Johnston, former ABC WA Rural Woman of the Year, a farmer/grazier from Darkan; Julie-Ann Harper, executive director and business development consultant from Mount Lawley, Perth; Robin McSweeney, a welfare officer and local government representative from Bridgetown; and Lally Butt, a health and aged care consultant from City Beach, Perth.
In addition, three members of the previous council have been appointed for a further one-year term. These include president Dr Jennifer Browne, Lee Gilmore and Pauline Vukelic. The executive director of the Women's Policy Development Office, Lynne McGuigan, is also a member.
"To ensure greater representation of rural women, the WAC will be calling for each of the nine regions across the State to nominate a representative to meet with the council, key women's groups and Government agencies on a regular basis," Mrs Edwardes said.
"The council will also be working closely with women's groups to ensure the needs and concerns of women are recognised and the diversity of women acknowledged.
"I would like to acknowledge the work of the previous WAC and look forward to ensuring this vital link between women in the community and Government is maintained."
