Formation of council to advise on small business
17/8/93
Small business will have a direct link to Government with the establishment by Deputy Premier Hendy Cowan of an advisory council to advise him on small business issues.
"I look forward to developing a close working relationship with the council," said Mr Cowan, who named the council's membership today.
"The Ministerial Small Business Advisory Council will provide me with advice on suggested government policies in this sector, as well as on the impact of policies.
"I am well aware of complaints from the small business sector about impediments which government imposes on their operations.
"It has always been a priority of this Government to be responsive to the needs of small business and the council will play an important role in this regard.
"The Government recognises that small business holds the key to employment growth in WA.
"I expect the council to provide a forum for regular consultation on small business issues.
"The members have been chosen to represent various industry sectors. They all have proven track records in small business and I believe they bring valuable experience to the council."
The council will be chaired by Mr Ross Leighton, managing director of Technology Park electronics firm Intellect Australia.
