Family and Children's Services has agreed to fund the Anglicare Financial Counselling Services in Mt Barker which guarantees it $10,373 a year until mid-1998. Minister for Family and Children's Services Cheryl Edwardes said the service would give support to individuals and families on low incomes who had financial problems.

"People on low incomes will be able to learn skills so they can manage their money successfully and there will be special help for Aboriginal people," Mrs Edwardes said.

"They will be able to make informed decisions and become financially stable with help on household management, budgeting and information on other supports in the area.

"People will be helped to deal with or prevent crises and given skills that will help them prevent further major problems in their lives.

"This service will ease the challenging stresses of daily living which will in turn benefit individuals, families and the community."

Mrs Edwardes said she believed the agreement marked the start of a good relationship which would benefit the local community.

"This agreement for funding of services will enable the agency to provide programs and courses to meet the needs of local residents," she said.
