17/7/96
Family and Children's Services has agreed to fund Brockman House's Family Support Service, enabling the service to continue to make a valuable long-term contribution that will benefit the community.
Family and Children's Services Minister Cheryl Edwardes announced today that the department had signed an agreement with the service which guaranteed it $72,930 a year until June 30, 1998.
Mrs Edwardes said Brockman House in Beechboro had a variety of resources available including a library, computers, fax, photocopier and bus.
"The Family Support Service will help families with dependent children to learn more about parenting and child management and assist them to cope with their lives," she said.
"There will be social gatherings, access to play groups, information and referral to other agencies.
"People on low incomes or who are culturally or socially isolated will find a variety of services that will help them deal positively with the daily challenges of living.
"This will ease the challenging stresses of daily living which will in turn benefit individuals, families and the community."
