Family and Children's Services has agreed to fund Southern AgCare Mobile Family Counselling Service in Gnowangerup to provide services until mid-1998 enabling the service to make a valuable long term contribution that will benefit the community.
Family and Children's Services Minister Cheryl Edwardes announced today that the department had signed an agreement with the service which guaranteed it $82,042 a year until June 30, 1998.
Mrs Edwardes said the service would give support to families and individuals who were having relationship, or other, problems.
"They will be helped to assess their circumstances, deal with or prevent crises and given skills that will help them make positive choices and decisions," she said.
"Informal and formal counselling and advice will be available for individuals, groups or families.
"Information will be given about services in the area and help given to form new groups if needed.
"This will ease the challenging stresses of daily living which will in turn benefit individuals, families and the community."
Mrs Edwardes said she believed the agreement marked the continuation of a good relationship which would benefit the local community.
This agreement for funding of services would enable the agency to provide programs and courses to meet the needs of local residents.
