14/3/96
Family and Children's Services is to fund the Northam Share and Care Financial Counselling Service enabling the centre to make a valuable contribution that will benefit the community.
Family and Children's Services' Minister Cheryl Edwardes announced today that the department had signed an agreement with the service which guaranteed it $39,941 a year until mid-June 1998.
Mrs Edwardes said the financial counselling service would give people on low incomes who were suffering financial hardship the means to make informed decisions about their money.
"It will help them understand budgeting, how to live within their means and how to identify problems," she said.
"People using the service will be able to mange their money and achieve financial stability.
"This means they can cope with the challenges of daily living in a positive way, which will in turn benefit individuals, families and the community."
Mrs Edwardes said she believed the agreement marked the start of a good relationship which would benefit the community.
"This agreement for funding enables the agency to provide valuable programs and courses," she said.
