8/8/96
Family and Children's Services has agreed to fund the Sussex Street Community Law Centre's financial counselling service until mid-1998.
This means the service can make a valuable contribution which will benefit the residents of Canning and Belmont.
Family and Children's Services Minister Cheryl Edwardes announced today that an agreement had been signed which guaranteed it $39,941 a year until June 30, 1998.
Mrs Edwardes said the service would support families and individuals on low incomes which had financial problems and were suffering hardship.
"They will be helped to assess their circumstances, budget and make informed decisions about their money," she said.
"Knowledge, skills and a variety of options will be offered, so people can make the most of their money and achieve financial stability.
"Having this expertise will mean a lessening of stress in their lives, which will benefit both them and the community."
Mrs Edwardes said she believed the agreement ensured the continuation of a good relationship which would benefit the local community.
This agreement for funding of services would enable the agency to provide programs to meet the needs of local residents.
