15/3/96
Family and Children's Services is to fund the Northern Districts Community Support Group, to enable the Morawa Family Counselling Services to make a valuable contribution that will benefit the community.
Family and Children's Services Minister Cheryl Edwardes announced today that the department had signed an agreement with the service which guaranteed funding of $53,272 a year until June 30, 1998.
Mrs Edwardes said the service would give support to families and individuals who were having problems with their relationships and their lives, or who felt isolated.
"They will be helped to deal with or prevent crises and be given skills that will help them prevent further major problems in their lives," she said.
"Families who are facing problems will be able to learn skills which will help them make positive choices and decisions.
"This will ease the challenging stresses of daily living, which will in turn benefit individuals, families and the community."
Mrs Edwardes said she believed the agreement marked the start of a good relationship which would benefit the local community.
"This agreement for funding will enable the agency to provide programs and courses to meet the needs of local residents," she said.
