Cricket in the Great Southern will get $5,500 to put towards a comprehensive development plan.

Sport and Recreation Minister Norman Moore announced the Sports Lottery Fund grant today.

"Every aspect of the game will be helped under the plan," Mr Moore said.

"This will include development, performance, education and administration.

"The aims of the program are to increase the profile of modified and junior cricket in the region, increase the numbers and improve the standards of coaches and to develop career paths for players, coaches, officials, sport trainers and administrators.

"In addition, the program is designed to create an extensive network of volunteers and the promotion and development of the roles of sports trainers, umpires and administrators to establish closer links with other regional sports and Government agencies.

"Putting a plan like this in place will have a positive effect for cricket and the region in general. I am pleased the Government has been able to help."
