GWN to join Brand WA to sponsor Top Tourism Town Awards
28/4/99
The Golden West Network is to join Brand WA as a major sponsor of the Country Tourism Association's prestigious Top Tourism Town Awards.
GWN announced details of its sponsorship at a meeting with Tourism Minister Norman Moore in Perth today.
Mr Moore had previously announced that the Western Australian Tourism Commission would provide $50,000 each year for the next two Top Tourism Town awards.
Today, GWN general manager Doug Edwards announced that GWN would offer cash and in-kind sponsorship in excess of $150,000 over the next three years, including a $15,000 airtime package in one of its markets - WA, Victoria, New South Wales or New Zealand - to one of the category winners.
Mr Edwards said GWN personalities also would assist in presenting and hosting the awards.
The Top Tourism Town Awards this year will be announced in October at a function in Kununurra.
Mr Moore said GWN's sponsorship was a terrific boost for the Country Tourism Association.
"It's a wonderful gesture by one of the State's most influential TV broadcasters," he said.
"It will give all towns in regional WA even more incentive to take part.
"The Top Tourism Town Awards have always been highly sought after.
"GWN's involvement lifts the awards profile to an even higher level."
Country Tourism Association chairman Robert Millar said the GWN and Brand WA sponsorship ensured that the Top Tourism Town Awards would only get bigger and better.
"There has always been a big incentive for towns in regional Western Australia to be part of the awards," Mr Millar said.
"The new prizemoney and the television coverage, both inside and outside WA, give our towns a wonderful opportunity to show a big TV audience, and their peers, what they have to offer."
