George Cash is the Liberal Party nominee to be the next President of the Legislative Council.

The Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council, Norman Moore, made the announcement today.

Mr Moore said that the decision to nominate Mr Cash, who is the Member for North Metropolitan, was made at a meeting of Legislative Council Liberal Party members today.

"Mr Cash has been a Member of Parliament since December, 1984, and is a very experienced, capable and efficient member," Mr Moore said.

"I have no doubt that if he is elected by the House, Mr Cash will be an excellent President and a worthy successor to Hon Clive Griffiths."

Derrick Tomlinson, the Member for East Metropolitan, was elected to be the Liberal Party nominee for the position of Chairman of Committees.

Mr Moore said that Mr Tomlinson had many years of experience as a member of the Legislative Council.

If elected to the position of Chairman of Committees, he would make a significant contribution to the running of the Legislative Council.
