Governor Jeffery's term extended
20/6/96
The term of the Governor of Western Australia, His Excellency, Major General Michael Jeffery AO, MC, has been extended to October 31, 1998.
Major General Jeffery's initial three-year term expires on October 31 this year.
Premier Richard Court announced today that the Queen had been pleased to approve his recommendation for the re-appointment of Major General Jeffery.
Mr Court said he was sure the extension of Major General Jeffery's term would be welcomed by the WA community.
"The Governor has filled the office with distinction since taking up his post," he said.
"Major General Jeffery, ably supported by his wife Marlena, has taken a strong interest in many areas of the community, in particular the needs and aspirations of WA's young people."
The Premier said the valuable contribution of the position of Governor had been highlighted recently by Major General Jeffery's role, as Honorary Colonel, in the aftermath of the tragic SAS training accident.
"The Government is pleased and grateful that Major General Jeffery has accepted our invitation to extend his term," he said.
