Graduation ceremony for Hedland College students
2/4/93
Education Minister Norman Moore will visit Port Hedland today to attend this evening's graduation ceremony for students from Hedland College.
Mr Moore said that 199 students completed their courses in 1992, and 65 would be attending tonight's ceremony at the Matt Dann Centre. They were graduating from 25 different award areas such as trade studies, nursing and office and secretarial studies.
The graduates would receive qualifications ranging from certificates and advanced certificates, to associate diplomas and pre-apprenticeship certificates.
"Hedland College has had a very successful past year, with nearly three quarters of its graduates finding employment, and with its major clients in the Pilbara and Kimberley being highly satisfied with the college's services," Mr Moore said.
"This is due to the college's strong community focus and responsiveness to the training and educational needs of the region."
The visit to the Pilbara is the first by Mr Moore in his new Ministerial capacity, although he is a familiar face in the area as MLC for the mining and pastoral region, having an office in Karratha. Prior to becoming a Minister, during his ten-year career as a teacher, Mr Moore taught at Karratha and Tom Price.
Mr Moore will also meet with representatives of the Port Hedland Council to discuss local issues including industrial development in Port Hedland.
