Gymnastics in the North-West is to benefit from a $5,000 grant.

Sport and Recreation Minister Norman Moore said that the Sports Lottery Fund grant would go to the North West Regional Gymnastics Association, based in Port Hedland.

Mr Moore said that the association represented clubs from Newman, Karratha, Port Hedland, South Hedland, Exmouth, Broome, Tom Price and Paraburdoo.

"There are more than 200 club gymnasts in the region," he said.

"Over the past five years, the association has been striving to provide many opportunities for their growth and development at all levels.

"The regional development plan is concentrating on two key issues - providing gymnastics at a club level and raising the awareness of the sport in the North-West.

"This year the association will conduct 10 programs for administrators, coaches, judges, participants, competitors and elite athletes."
