Water Resources Minister Roger Nicholls has announced a grant of $10,000 to support a Mingenew Shire scheme to create a legal and practical basis for the shared use of ground water resources near the Yandanooka townsite.

The $15,000 project involves a hydrogeological assessment and the development of an appropriate lease agreement to allow access by a number of users of the resource.

"The project will provide the practical basis for turning an underground resource into a community benefit and was recommended to me by the Farm Water Advisory Committee chaired by Moore MLA Bill McNee," Mr Nicholls said.

"The Farm Water Grant Scheme has been restructured and will now offer better assistance to individual farmers and community groups seeking to improve farm water supplies.

"Applications for the first round of individual grants under the reorganised scheme will open in September."
