Eighteen of Geraldton's most talented young badminton players will be able to fight it out for the prestigious Higgs Trophy, thanks to a grant announced today.

Sport and Recreation Minister Norman Moore said the $937 grant was from the Sports Lottery Fund.

It would enable the squad to attend the inter-regional team competition for the Higgs Trophy in Pemberton from September 29 to October 4.

The squad would include under 19, 17 and 15 boys and girls from Geraldton Junior Badminton.

"Country sports people deserve the chance to compete at the highest possible level," Mr Moore said.

"I am pleased this grant will make that possible."
