Transport Minister Eric Charlton has announced a new appointment to the Esperance Port Authority board and an extension of terms for two other members.

The new board member is Mr Ian Burston, who is chief executive officer of Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines.

"Mr Burston is well-known and respected throughout the State's mining industry and sits on a large number of associated boards," Mr Charlton said.

"His agreement to become a member of the Esperance Port Authority is something of a coup for Esperance.  He has had a long interest in the region, culminating with the recent purchase of property there.

"The knowledge and experience he brings to the Authority will be invaluable, especially as the port tries to develop its position as an outlet for the Goldfields mineral industry."

Mr Burston replaces retiring board member Mr Blake Senior.

Meanwhile, the terms of Port Authority Chairman Mr Ralph Bower and of another member, Mr Geoff Males, have been extended for two years.

Mr Charlton described Mr Bower as a long-standing, valuable member and chairman of the Authority, who brought vast experience and undiminished enthusiasm to the job.

Mr Males, a local farmer, has served on the Authority for two years in the area of grain movements.

The membership of the Authority is: Mr Ralph Bower (chairman), Mr Ugo Capelli, Mr Richard Nulson, Mr Ian Burston and Mr Geoff Males.
