Improvements to bus services in suburbs of Atwell and Success
23/4/96
Bus services in the suburbs of Atwell and Success have been improved.
Transport Minister Eric Charlton said that from this week the upgrading of Route 140 services was providing better access to the rapidly growing suburbs.
"More direct and frequent routes will replace the current meandering services and link them to Fremantle, the closest regional centre," he said.
Mr Charlton said additional Route 140 buses on Saturday and Sunday were also being introduced to improve weekend services. This would mean an overall trip time of just over 30 minutes between Atwell and Fremantle.
"By using the fast, frequent electric train links to Perth, as well as transferring to other Transperth services enroute, passengers can get from Atwell to Perth in around
70 minutes," he said.
Mr Charlton said Routes 840 and 841 would continue and a further upgrade of bus services in the Jandakot region was planned for the opening of the new shopping centre on Forrest Road.
"Another initiative by the Department of Transport is the introduction of weekend bus services on Route 881," he said.
"Citylink buses with limited stops have become increasingly popular with the public and the recent reforms to public transport have reduced operating costs and made it viable for Transperth to increase the frequency of services on selected routes.
"Route 881 has become a daily service. It has half-hourly services between 7.30 am and 6.30 pm on Saturdays and hourly services between 8.30 am and 7.30 pm on Sundays."
Mr Charlton said Metrobus - the service provider - and the Department of Transport had both put great effort into meeting requests for change.
