Increased funding for Morley's Salvation Army support service
11/11/96
The Salvation Army Family Support service in Morley will receive an increase in funding this year, Family and Children's Services Minister Cheryl Edwardes announced today.
Mrs Edwardes said funding for the service would jump from $20,006 to $35,006 a year until June 30, 1998 in recognition of the vital service it provided to the local community.
"The Family Support Service provides valuable counselling assistance to families who need help to prevent family breakdowns or crises," Mrs Edwardes said.
"It aims to improve relationships within the family in both the short and the long term, and to help people deal with and prevent conflict.
"Families in crisis can receive practical help, informal counselling and advice as well as finding out about other community support services they may need to use.
"Both parents and children can develop extra skills and knowledge about family relationships that can help them avoid similar crises in the future.
"By using the information and support the service has to offer, parents can take positive steps to create a strong family environment."
Mrs Edwardes said the agreement was part of the department's commitment to providing quality support services to Western Australian families and would benefit the whole community.
