Attorney General Cheryl Edwardes is investigating the legality of plans by a Western Australian publishing company to conduct a lecture in Perth next week featuring video material of the controversial British historian David Irving.

Mr Irving, who had intended to conduct a lecture and book promotion tour of Australia, has been refused an entry visa by the Federal Government.

Mrs Edwardes said an advertisement in 'The Australian' newspaper today gave notice of a series of video presentations by David Irving in a number of cities including Perth.

"If the videos to be used have not been classified by the Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) then it is illegal to exhibit them in a public place," Mrs Edwardes said.

"The State Censorship Office is seeking clarification on the matter from the OFLC."

Mrs Edwardes said that if it was found that the videos had not been classified then the matter would be referred to the police.
