Commerce and Trade Minister Hendy Cowan said today the outcome of investigations into the Enterprise Development Program had highlighted the Government's commitment to accountability.

Mr Cowan said the inquiry, by independent auditors, had found no substance to allegations of corruption raised in the media last week.

"I am satisfied with the auditor's findings in that regard and also with the expeditious way in which the Department of Commerce and Trade has dealt with the issue," he said.

"It demonstrates the priority the department, and this Government, gives to public accountability."

Mr Cowan said the independent auditor's report would now be forwarded to the Anti-Corruption Commission for its scrutiny.

The department's Enterprise Development Scheme had been properly administered and program delivery would continue to be rigorously monitored.

"Notwithstanding federal cuts to industry assistance schemes, such as the National Industry Extension Scheme, the State Government will continue to offer these important services to business," Mr Cowan said.
