J E (Ted) Karasek to chair WA Greyhound Racing Association
29/11/95
Mr J E (Ted) Karasek has been appointed chairman of the Western Australian Greyhound Racing Association.
Mr Robert Golding has been appointed deputy chairman and Mr Clive Nelthorpe has been appointed to the vacancy on the committee.
The appointments were announced today by Racing and Gaming Minister Max Evans after approval by the Governor in Executive Council.
Mr Karasek will replace Mr Ray Bennett as chairman, following Mr Bennett's appointment as general manager of the TAB.
Widely known in the aviation and tourism industries, Mr Karasek participated in last year's review of the Liquor Licensing Act and was appointed to the WAGRA committee in June.
Mr Golding was appointed to the WAGRA committee in July last year and becomes deputy chairman following the decision of the former deputy, Mr Daryl Gore, not to seek re-appointment.
Mr Nelthorpe, of Swanbourne, is general manager of Best Western Hospitality and has extensive experience in the tourism and marketing industries.
Dr Peter Thomas and Mr Neal Albrey will continue as the other members of the five-member WAGRA committee.
Mr Evans said the new appointments would add considerable business and marketing strength to the association at a time when all forms of racing needed to compete effectively for attendance and an adequate share of the gambling market.
"The appointments are a Government responsibility and I wanted to make sure that the association is served by proven executives with a strong promotional background," the Minister said.
