The new chief executive officer of the Department of Labour Relations will be the head of Victoria's Employee Relations and Employment business unit of the Department of State Development.

Labour Relations Minister Graham Kierath said Mr John Lloyd would take up the position on November 6.

Mr Lloyd also has experience with the Department of Industrial Relations in Canberra and was a financial economist for the Commercial Bank of Australia.

Mr Kierath said Mr Lloyd's considerable experience in Victoria's labour relations reform would stand him in good stead for the changes already in place here in Western Australia.

He said Mr Lloyd's broad knowledge of labour relations issues, experience with policy development and implementation and management skills were what were needed for the top position at DOPLAR.

Mr Lloyd replaces Mr Colin Thatcher, who returned to Queensland for family reasons.
