John Mitchell is the new chief executive officer of the Rottnest Island Authority.
Tourism Minister Norman Moore announced the appointment today.
Mr Mitchell , 48, has been acting chief executive officer since March when Brian Easton left to become chief executive officer of the Perth Zoo.
Mr Moore said Mr Mitchell had extensive senior management experience.
This included appointments as the director of Strategic and Business Services at the Department of Contract and Management Services and general manager of the Central Great Southern Health and Aged Care Services. He also had held a number of other key positions in public sector agencies.
Mr Mitchell had a Master's degree in Leadership and Management.
"John Mitchell brings wide management experience to the very important role of chief executive officer of the authority," Mr Moore said.
"I know he is looking forward to the chance to work closely with board members, voluntary groups and staff of the authority."
Mr Mitchell was born in Belfast in Northern Ireland.
He worked for 12 years in the United Kingdom civil service and has lived in Western Australia since 1985 with his wife and four children.
