The Broome Taekwondo Club is hoping for further success at this year's State Championships on May 19.

The club is sending seven juniors to the titles at the Superdrome.

Sport and Recreation Minister Norman Moore today approved a grant of $1,450 towards travel expenses for the club.

Mr Moore said the club had a very good record in competition.

"At last year's Australasian Championships, members took home four gold, five silver and four bronze medals," he said.

"This is a remarkable achievement, considering that the club has only 45 or so members."

The seven who will be contesting the State titles are:

Boys: Jade Cassidy, Damian Duff and Michael Carter (all yellow belt), Sean Rahman (the club's blue belt champion) and Bart Pigram (red belt) who is the current State champion.

Girls: Cara Moreland and Sherona Wilson (both blue belt).

Mr Moore praised the dedication of the competitors and their instructor, John Young.

"They train three nights a week to prepare themselves for major competitions. Judging by recent results, it is time well spent.

"I wish them all the best in their endeavours to capture more gold."
