Planning Minister Richard Lewis today announced that leading restaurateur and businesswoman, Kate Lamont, had been appointed chairman of the Swan Valley Planning Committee.
Mr Lewis said Ms Lamont would replace Eric Bingley who had recently passed away and would be greatly missed.
"Eric Bingley will be remembered for his contribution to the preservation of the Swan Valley. He worked tirelessly to ensure that the unique values of the area were preserved for future generations," he said.
"As inaugural chairman of the Swan Valley Planning Committee, Eric Bingley helped establish a foundation to guide Government and other decision making bodies with advice on planning, development and management issues relating to the Swan Valley.
"Previously the deputy chairman of the committee, Kate Lamont worked closely with Eric Bingley to advance the objectives of the Swan Valley Planning Act 1995 which defines the boundaries of the Swan Valley.
"As the new chairman, Ms Lamont is well-equipped to lead the committee as it continues this very important work."
Kate Lamont was a member of the Interim Swan Valley Strategy Committee which developed the Swan Valley legislation, has been a member of the Swan Valley Tourism Council and a member of the Perth Zoo Board. She was also instrumental in setting up the Spring in the Valley Festival.
