The Kemerton Advisory Board has been restructured after a review of the management of strategic industrial estates throughout Western Australia.
Resources Development Minister Colin Barnett said today the new body would be called the Kemerton Industrial Park Co-ordinating Committee.
Mr Barnett said the committee's key roles would be to:

  • support the planning and development of the Kemerton Industrial Park:
  • co-ordinate local and regional input to the management of the industrial park;
  • create a forum for the exchange of information at the local and regional level; and -
  • advise the Government on issues affecting the industrial park.

Key tasks would include addressing specific issues about the management and development of Kemerton, including:
  • land use and infrastructure planning;
  • land purchase;
  • environmental management;
  • environmental studies and data collection;
  • emergency response planning; and -
  • waste disposal.

Mr Barnett said core membership would include representatives from the Department of Resources Development, LandCorp, South West Development Commission, the Shire of Harvey, Bunbury Port Authority, the South-West Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Simcoa and Millennium Inorganic Chemicals.
He said other organisations would be invited to participate to help with specific issues relevant to their area of responsibility.
Subcommittees could also be established where appropriate to advise on particular aspects of industrial park management. The Kemerton Community Committee had already been established to advise on issues which were relevant to the community and the environment.
