Kevin Carton appointed chairman of WA Tourism Commission board
17/4/95
Prominent Western Australian Kevin Carton has been appointed chairman of the board of the Western Australian Tourism Commission.
Premier Richard Court, who is also Minister for Tourism, said Mr Carton was one of seven appointments to the board, which played a key role in the drive to encourage both more visitors to the State and investment in tourism infrastructure.
"Mr Carton is a well-known Western Australian who was an outstanding sportsman - a dual Olympian and Australian hockey captain - and who has more than 40 years' experience in the airline and hotel industries," Mr Court said.
"Kevin has worked for Ansett, Qantas, Air India and held senior management positions with ITT Sheraton. He currently heads his own hotel management company."
Mr Carton has also served as a member of the Board of the Australian Tourist Commission and the Advisory Council to the Queensland Minister for Tourism.
Mr Court said Mr Carton had been joined on the Board by Annette Knight, Mayor of the Town of Albany, Ruth Harrison, General Manager of the Perth Parmelia Hilton, Ron Buckey, Manager of Ansett Australia's North Western Region, George Booth, State Manager of Qantas Holidays and Terry Baker, Shire President of the Shire of Ashburton.
The chief executive officer of the Western Australian Tourism Commission, Kevin Harrison, had also been appointed to the board.
Mr Court said the appointments ensured the board was represented by a cross-section of representatives from the State's tourism industry, including hotels, airlines and regional areas.
