Klockner-Moeller customer services facility opened
12/9/95
Resources Development Minister Colin Barnett today opened a new customer services facility for industrial electrical and electronic switchgear manufacturer Klockner-Moeller Pty Limited.
Mr Barnett said Klockner-Moeller's main market in Western Australia was the resources development sector, where it specialised in the design and manufacture of electrical controls, automation, power distribution and motor controls for the mining and minerals processing industries.
The enlarged Perth facilities were now its biggest operation in Australia, underlining the German-based firm's continuing commitment to resource developers and downstream processors in the State.
The Minister said he was pleased to open the facility, particularly in the light of recent developments in the resources development sector in Western Australia.
"All the signs show that we are now standing on the threshold of a major resources development boom," he said.
"As a result of the deregulation of the energy sector and the construction of the Goldfields Gas Pipeline, the Pilbara in particular is set to experience a period of growth and prosperity, the like of which has not been seen for 30 years or more.
"As the number of downstream processing plants increases, there will be increasing demand for high quality components and parts for the associated plant and machinery."
The Minister said Klockner-Moeller Australia, a wholly owned subsidiary set up in 1973, said the company would continue to expand its manufacturing base in WA.
The centre comprised a new office and enlarged workshop in Osborne Park, Perth.
The centre's manufacturing area had been trebled so that switchboards and large motor control centres for major WA projects could be completely assembled on site.
Other facilities included an engineering design office, a customer training centre and component warehouse.
The Minister said the opening of the customer service centre promised to bring with it the chance to add more WA content to Klockner-Moeller's products, and to meet more closely the changing needs of WA resource companies.
