Attorney General Cheryl Edwardes said today further funding had been approved for a local organisation which provided critical support for young people at risk.
The Koondoola and Girrawheen Youth Auto Program is one of a number of non-Government organisations around the State to receive a 12-month extension of funding from the Justice Ministry's Juvenile Justice Division.
The program, which has received funding of $86,777, offers automotive workshop skills training with the aim of developing the skills of young people to a level that will improve their chances of gaining employment or further training.
Mrs Edwardes said the Ministry of Justice made funding available to a wide range of community organisations to provide locally-based support services for young people who had offended or were at risk of offending.
"These organisations provide vital support to address the personal, social and economic disadvantage that contributes to the problems of juvenile crime," Mrs Edwardes said.
"The Koondoola and Girrawheen Youth Auto Program has been very successful, and there are many examples of participants gaining employment or further training in the automotive field.
"This grant will enable the excellent work to continue."
