Mr Criddle said the completion of the $128 million contract, which included the replacement of traffic lights at five intersections with bridges, meant users would have a much clearer run from Mandurah to Perth.
"The lights have been an impediment to smooth traffic flow and I'm pleased to say the first bridge structure is already in place at Berrigan Drive and will be carrying traffic early next year," he said.
Mr Criddle announced the scheduled completion date during an inspection of the project today with local Members of Parliament.
"This is a magnificent project that will provide a world class transport and commuter link to Perth for people living in the rapidly-expanding Peel region," he said.
"This is a very exciting project with work extending from just north of Berrigan Drive to the intersection of Safety Bay Road.
"The first bridge beams were lifted in to place on Berrigan Drive at the end of July, which marked a significant project milestone.
"The bridge beams are expected to be lifted into place at the intersections of Beeliar Drive and Russell/Gibbs Road during September.
"Public response to the project has been exceptional, with motorists showing extreme patience while moving through the extensive project site.
"It is a credit to Main Roads and the contractor, Thiess, that to date road users have been accommodated without significant impacts.
"Local residents are also playing an integral role in the project with a key focus on meeting the needs of individuals and groups where ever possible."
As part of the project, work starts next month on two tunnels for the South West Metropolitan Railway (SWMR) which will allow future Perth-Mandurah passenger trains to access the centre of the freeway.
One of the tunnels is located just north of Berrigan Drive at Glen Iris and the other near Thomas Road. The two rail tunnels will cost an additional $30 million. To allow for the railway to be built down the middle of the freeway the northbound lanes are being relocated further west.
