Travelling and touring in Western Australia has been made easier by the production of a CD-ROM which stores maps of all regions in the State.
Lands Minister Doug Shave launched the Department of Land Administration (DOLA) CD of touring maps today at Wireless Hill in Ardross.
"The CD is a great aid in planning a holiday in Western Australia," Mr Shave said.
"Every region is covered in detail and a click of a key is all that is needed to move between maps.
"It is an easy and interesting way to plan a holiday and a great way to sell WA to our overseas visitors."
Detailed plans of major centres, tourist information, a gallery of pictures showing the State at its best, and links to major Internet sites are also on the CD. The CD would also be an ideal planning tool for the growing number of people who travel with laptop computers.
The CD contains all the details in printed regional maps, including distances between centres, notes on attractions, local history and warning about outback travel. Holidaymakers can also find places to enjoy a station stay, one of the growing outback tourism attractions.
Maps and town plans can be enlarged for greater detail. The CD provides Internet links to the WA Tourism Commission's home page, where people can obtain more information and even book accommodation in areas they may plan to visit.
"DOLA's production of the CD is an important advance in presenting travel and tourism information and an example of Government agencies applying leading edge technology," Mr Shave said.
The CD of WA touring maps is available from the Central Mapping Agency at Midland, local tourist offices and newsagents and costs $29.95.
