Launch of WA music compilation compact disc

Arts Minister Peter Foss will tonight launch a Western Australian music compilation compact disc, commissioned by the Arts Department for use as a promotional gift for overseas visitors.

The 16-track CD is called 'Western Horizons' and all of the music was written and performed by some of this State's best unsigned songwriters and musicians.  Every song was recorded, mixed and mastered in WA, and the cover booklet was also designed and printed here.

The songs feature a range of musical styles including pop, rock, folk, country, jazz and Aboriginal music.

The CD was produced by the WA Music Association Inc, and includes songs from the four winners of the Association's 1993 Song Contest, and the major winners of the 1993 WAMI Awards.

The Association has produced 1,000 copies to be distributed to overseas visitors through Government and media organisations.

The launch will take place in the Wardle Room at the Perth Concert Hall tonight at 6 pm.
