Launch of comprehensive guide to concessions
12/7/95
The State Government will soon launch a guide to concessions explaining the many benefits available to Western Australians.
The guide details the wide variety of concessions and discounts offered in areas such as health, education, housing, water, travel and energy.
The comprehensive brochure also covers savings on legal aid, council rates, camping fees, fishing licences, dental treatment, rent, and many other things.
It clearly sets out the eligibility requirements which are detailed and strict.
The guide has been produced by Family and Children's Services to provide information about concessions estimated to be worth a total of $143 million a year.
Family and Children's Services Minister Roger Nicholls said that the discounts related to a range of essential goods and services and some recreational activities.
Concessions were also available to assist seniors and people with health-related and special needs.
Mr Nicholls said the guide would help people to take advantage of savings that could improve their standard of living.
"Without a convenient guide it can be challenging for people to find out what concessions they are entitled to. This publication sets out clearly the discounts that are available to individuals and families," he said.
The colour guide will be distributed in The West Australian newspaper's magazine on Saturday July 22, and Mr Nicholls urged people to pull the guide out and keep it as a handy reference.
It would also be available from the offices of Family and Children's Services and the Department for Social Security or by telephoning 222 2761.
