Commerce and Trade Minister Hendy Cowan has launched a comprehensive new Great Southern trade directory.

The Great Southern Products Directory, unveiled by the Minister in Albany today, provides details of over 200 producers and more than 250 products made in the region.

The directory was prepared by the Great Southern Development Authority.

"The directory is a handy guide to local products and provides a profile of the types of manufacturers in the region," Mr Cowan said.

"It will be useful to anyone wanting to start up a business in the Great Southern.

"It will also be an invaluable promotional tool, indicating the extent of manufacturing services throughout the region.

"This will be timely given the current promotion of the region as a base for a number of industries, including a high technology abattoir and wool processing."

The Great Southern Development Authority compiled the directory with the assistance of local government authorities, the Department of Commerce and Trade, Albany Chamber of Commerce and local producers.

Listing in the directory is free of charge.

Copies will be distributed to local government, government agencies, libraries and businesses in the region.  The Albany Chamber of Commerce has also indicated that it will use the directory to promote the region.

Copies of the directory are available from the GSDA, free of charge.
