Police Minister Bob Wiese said today that a submission to introduce legislation aimed at regulating the activities of night club and hotel bouncers was currently being finalised.

Mr Wiese said he expected to be able to take to Cabinet within the next few weeks a proposal for a Controlled Activities Bill which, among other things, would see the registration and licensing of night club and hotel bouncers.

"This is an issue which has been of great concern to police and the community for a number of years," he said.

"The Coalition Government is keen to see that this very important legislation, which was neglected by the previous Government for more than five years, is acted upon as soon as possible.

"I anticipate that the proposal will be on my desk very soon and I hope to be able to take it to Cabinet within the next few weeks."
