Linecorp Roadmarkers Pty Ltd has been awarded two Main Roads contracts worth more than $1.93 million to supply, install and maintain new road markings in the Perth metropolitan area.

Transport Minister Eric Charlton said the initial contracts would take six months to complete and were part of a three-year schedule under the State's Additional Road Funding program to upgrade markings in the metropolitan area.

"Main Roads will achieve significant savings using the long life road marking materials, which have an expected life of between four and eight years, compared with the present materials which last from eight to 12 months and need frequent maintenance," Mr Charlton said.

He said the long road markings would be used at 40 intersections with signals and 1,000 without signals, at school guard crossings, bus embayments, painted medians and local area traffic management facilities.

"The changeover from painted road marking materials to the more reflective long life material will assist motorists to navigate more safely at night and in wet weather," the Minister said.
