Lands Minister George Cash has advanced the Mungari Industrial Park project in Kalgoorlie with the appointment of local engineers, Looten Kendall.

Mr Cash said the Kalgoorlie company would assess and cost the provision of services to the proposed park and have a preliminary report ready within 12 weeks.

"It is important this project is up and running as soon as possible so locally-based industries interested in downstreaming their products have access to a suitable site," Mr Cash said.

"The Mungari development has the potential to open up opportunities for new industries which in turn improves the region's employment prospects."

LandCorp selected Mungari, 26km south west of Kalgoorlie on the Great Eastern Highway, because of its accessibility to water, power and road and rail transport.

"The main east-west railway line and the Kalgoorlie water pipe both run through Mungari and electricity is also readily available."

The consulting engineers would provide a costed blueprint for the infrastructure of Mungari Industrial Park.

They would also plan the supply of water and power to the park, look at whether a rail spur was needed and design roads to and within the park.
